Impulsivity in check

image

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.  James 1:4 NIV

Hey everybody! I know I haven’t posted in a long time. I’ve literally been consumed with work and life maintenance, but I’ve come up for air and have something I’d like to share with you.

Strolling to my car yesterday evening I was reflecting on recent events I’ve observed and experienced, when a flash of inspiration to communicate something about impulsivity came over me. You know, some people live their lives impulsively. Knee-jerking from one rash decision to the other, mowing down relationships and opportunities along the way. Be careful of this, if you can.

Time in reflection and rest can lighten dark ominous clouds that hang over situations. Give it time. Fill in the blank of your “it”.  A situation, obligation, relationship or health issue. Pause and consider before making hurried impulsive decisions that cannot be easily corrected or may even be life-altering. Just wait a minute, get some wise counsel, pray. Weigh out the options, then respond… or don’t. A runaway ego can be a dangerous thing. Wreaking havoc and creating the need for apologies and retractions as a lifestyle. Sure, there are life’s scenarios that require prompt attention, tend to those. I’m suggesting it’s possible to ground yourself, living a lifestyle of soundness and good choices you feel good about. Let’s work on putting impulsivity in check.

Degreed

Have you observed athletes, entertainers or entrepreneurs that are uber successful, who did not spend a lot of time, maybe just the minimum in school? It’s something to think about as you weigh how to allocate your dollars and energy on higher education. A formal education teaches you a body of knowledge. It grooms you on how to think, how to be resourceful, how to endure challenges. What it may not do for you is open up lucrative income. That part is going to be up to you. Part skill set, part creativity, partly what you embody.

It’s not one’s pursuit of a particular course of study that guarantees open doors. Instead, it’s who you know you are that translates into opportunities. Go to school? Yes, but take the limits off yourself after you do, and go for what’s in your heart.

Let it move you

Out on my walk this morning, this was the first song on my play list. Hearing it caused me to feel exhilarated!… in touch with the divine.

Put your ear buds in, close your eyes, and let it move you. Move from one stagnant thought to an energized one, move from pain and discontent to gratitude. If you can hear this song or feel the vibrations of it. Let it move you.

And what about us?

I discovered this fact from Nova yesterday on social media: Nearly 90% of all deep-sea species shine from within. image

Reading this begged the question, what about the human species? If 90% of deep-sea creatures are equipped with light to traverse the darkest depths of the sea, what about us humans? We need a light! We need light to see our way in dark places. We need light to energize our bodies and nourish our bones. We need inner light to propel us forward with hope when uncertainties abound. From whence cometh our light?

“Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105

“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of Life.” John 8:12

Food is fuel

imageWatch what you put in your body. Food is fuel for life. If the food you’re eating makes you feel bad, reconsider your nutritional choices. Take the time to determine what foods don’t agree with you and search for a more beneficial alternative. You can’t do life well without health.

Hello

Music brings all people together.

It’s the day after Thanksgiving. Relax and enjoy your family, your friends, yourself. Take a look at this video of superstars jamming on class room instruments, having a blast and follow suit.

Find what makes you feel joyous and focus your attention right there. Practice living a little more carefree. I know life may not be a full time party, but why not lighten up anyway? Why not? Doing so just may cause the shift that you need to occur. Hello!
