And what about us?

I discovered this fact from Nova yesterday on social media: Nearly 90% of all deep-sea species shine from within. image

Reading this begged the question, what about the human species? If 90% of deep-sea creatures are equipped with light to traverse the darkest depths of the sea, what about us humans? We need a light! We need light to see our way in dark places. We need light to energize our bodies and nourish our bones. We need inner light to propel us forward with hope when uncertainties abound. From whence cometh our light?

“Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105

“Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of Life.” John 8:12

Well, its finally here!

Fourteen years after the call to write a book.
Two and a half years after my last formal assignment.
It’s not a bird or a plane…. Get where this is going? Lol.

It’s the book! 🎉👏🙌

Yes, One A Day Nuggets For Success is available! I hope it speaks to you. I want it to make you think: “Who am I? Why am I here? Am I fulfilling my purpose? How do I start? Do I have to be what they say I am? How can I move from where I am to where I want to be?” and much more.

This book is why I got a Master’s degree. It’s why I got a license to counsel. Yes, I’ve used those credentials for other reasons. Those reasons all worked together to produce this book.

It’s an e-book,… for now. Yes, I’m still evolving also :).  So let’s journey together. Starting today, and for the next 365 days, take my nuggets One A Day and let’s see where we end up!

Ok, ok, okay!

Do you remember your kids saying that when you attempted to wake them for school? Or maybe that was you this morning when the alarm clock rang.

Well, it’s Monday and though it’s typically challenging to get going after a long holiday weekend, thanks be to God who always causes us to triumph. Calibrate your mind, adjust your attitude, and let’s do this!

Oh yeah! Today, after all the thanksgiving festivities, it’s a good day to choose fruits and veggies over pastries 😉.

Seal all cracks

IMG_1075.JPG
Winter is on its way. Now is a good time to seal all the cracks around your home, both literally and figuratively. Sealing the cracks in your property prevents water, air, bugs and pests from entering. Similarly, doing so in your relationship and your armour is going to save you a lot of damage control down the line.

Take some time this week to inspect your property, check. Then take a sweeping look at your relationship, check. Now, if you’re a Christian, examine your armour against Ephesians 6. Ready for this season? Check.

Money Everywhere

For years I have paid school tuition. For a while it seemed like an endless train of due dates, fundraisers, supplies… Repeat. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not complaining. I realize to have been able to do so has been a gift.

One of the great things about investing in your kids education is what they bring you back in the form of expanded knowledge and ideas from the contemporary culture, not to mention the prospect of independence and quality living that awaits them.

As a matter of fact, as I watch my daughter evolve, I marvel at how much more she knows and is capable of, then when I was her exact age. This is a phenomenon I celebrate.

So, when she was home over this past Christmas, during one of the many times we were all in the kitchen, I was unaware of her gathering coins. You know, the coins that we unconsciously allow to lay in places all around the house. On counter tops, shelves and some, yes, even on the floor. I didn’t process what was happening until she declared in a scolding tone “You guys have money everywhere!”

It resonated loudly. Especially since I knew the reality of my current holdings…I definitely did not feel like I “had money everywhere”, but she was right. I could hear the weight of what she had gathered in her hand and I was convicted… Humph, money everywhere.

If you have thoughts of, and plans for more money, respect the money you already have. #Counsel4Living

Who do you think you are?

Okay, so I’m reading the story of David and Goliath right? And I find this interesting thing happening; I’m cracking up and rooting for David. Now, I’ve read this story before and heard of it more. Many people know this story or have heard of it as a classic bible story. There’s even a cartoon formed after it on Christian TV, anyway you get the picture. This time though, the story is different and that’s exactly my point. The Bible is so cool and unique in that you can read it over and over, yet each time it’s possible to gain insight previously veiled.  Has the story changed? No, but I have. I have more experiences coupled with changed perspectives that happen with time, so the story now reads differently and I’m cracking up as I read it and commenting out loud to myself like… “You  tell him  David!”

Then it occurs to me. What does this story have to do with me? How can or should I apply this to my life?

David was the least of Jesse’s sons according to presentation to the prophet Samuel. He wasn’t all that tall and he was a shepherd. Yet God had his eye on him because of the relationship he established with God in His alone time tending the sheep. Imagine that, an unpopular youngest son, a worshiper from an alone place called to the forefront. No, selected by God to succeed King Saul as the next King of Israel, but before that He would prove His courage through a series of trying events. One of which was taking down Goliath.

Here’s what totally floats my boat. For forty days the army of Israel was being taunted by this mammoth warrior of the Philistines, Goliath. He had riddled them with fear and no man would withstand Goliath, until David. David appeared on the scene by chance it seems and learned of the standoff to which he replied, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”I Sam 17:26 b. David was bold because He knew who he was. He had taken down a bear and a lion and most importantly he knew the presence of his God, so to hear of the challenge only caused him to draw on his reservoir of experiences.

Who do you think you are? Your answer has everything to do with what you can accomplish.

But the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits. Daniel 11:32b
